The term tea towel describes types of kitchen towels and was originally an English term. Tea towels were traditionally made from a soft thin linen material. Throughout history, they were mainly used as décor. They were embroidered and coloured with beautifully intricate designs and were made to match a kitchen’s lavish linen set.
In countries where having tea is a daily ritual, like England and Ireland, tea towels are found in abundance. Years ago, they were also used to dry and polish fragile dishes that were too precious to trust to potentially clumsy housemaids.
